Blue Angels....going up!
You would never think these guys have a bad show but they do. In this airshow three of the six planes had smoke issues or the formation was erratic...when they landed and dismounted all you could hear was dead silence from the team, no interview, no comments. Look close at the formation and you can see how far off they are. These guys are the best of the best....but they too sometimes have a bad day at the office....still would love to have a few hours in there "office chair."
Hope you had a Happy Birthday brother Tom!
Thanks for making the balloons #1 yesterday....I am feeling better, thanks. Enjoy this one too!blue angelsairshowaircraftairplane911lincolnnebraskavehiclesphotoperson
This is one of the only flying P-38's I have seen in a while, my favorite plane, fast and agile....the plane I would have flown in that era. Have a few more of this upcoming.....enjoy.

I have been a little under the weather lately, this is a shot I got from the Indianola balloon festival in Indianola Iowa, it was one of the first images I shot with my first digital camera. I had purchased a five hundred roll pack of film a year prior to this shot and had just run out of film. Paul jr. found the camera in St louis and went and got it for us and off to the races we went.....The camera doesn't fell good in my hand yet but heck I shot almost five thousand frames with that old film camera......hope I get more like this, hope you enjoy it!
I don't have photoshop....background is real, looking toward the North, real hazy out, sun is in and out of the clouds right at sunset, thanks for asking!
I was not in a balloon, they are the last ones up and out...real distinctive crafts, almost like the ones used to go around the world, haven't seen many of this type before this event.
You don't see many with animals on the sides either...

Taking down the tree this weekend.....
Vintage Nebraska.... this is the Joslyn Castle Christmas tree, we were looking for something quick to do this weekend. Caught the 2pm tour on the last day the Christmas decorations are up. The Castle is located in midtown Omaha and has a great set of volunteers that keep the place restored. The area behind the stained glass windows is a walk thru atrium with a large fish pond. A winding spiral staircase fows up to the second floor just above this shot. The windows tilt out at the bottom to let the fresh scent of beautiful flowers and humidity into the living area, please don't miss this treasure if you come to Omaha.
Thanks for the great comments I hope you enjoy this one too.christmas treephotopersonstained glassjoslyn castleomahanebraska

Gaited Community.....
How many gates can you see....found this barn on the Georgia North Carolina border just down the road from the Sylvan Gristmill, oddly enough there was no livestock around....makes ya wonder.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments on the "Forest for the Trees" shot yesterday and making it #1.....I am humbled. Most of the time later in the day I edit the caption for questions received from people in this gallery, thanks for asking.... I write most of the captions for the book of photos I hope to someday soon start to publish, the captions or stories will overlay the picture in the book. I sometimes add a story about the image or my antics getting the image....some images really don't have a story, its just another incredibly beautiful place. I try to give you all the information you need so you are able to go there yourself and see it in person. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and for looking at my work......Go Green Bay!
Thanks Mark ....enjoyed yours also....we love Wisconsin and your in the thick of it! Keep up the great work!14JAN2012
Crystal Ridge....
Took this in Smoky Mountain National Park on the way home from Myrtle Beach....Its three o'clock...Winding down from Clingman's Dome northbound to Gatlinburg the ridges were lit up....it exposed the ice all over the trees.
Thanks for looking....please comment!
I mounted the lens on the tripod and walked to the edge of the road to shoot this shot. Took a few shots...walked back to the car got the lens hood out, my retna scorched from looking at the sun thru the viewfinder. Hood now on I took a few shots....walked back to the car got map and taped it to the hood I now have this Jed Clampett looking getup hanging off the tripod. Took a few shots, set up the camera....now holding my hand out in front of the map taped to the hood I take this shot....the ridge is at least a mile away very dark on the shadow side and semi lit beyond the ridge. F32 was the only aperture setting that got the semi lit trees past the ridge to have any detail to them.
Thanks to the Daily community for making this #1 today!!!10JAN2012
Hooker Falls North Carolina.....The clouds just above the tree tops with intermittent rain showers the trek to Hooker falls is short and almost level the trail passes a few picnic sites and numerous wild trout release notifications but we saw nobody fishing, it's cold and turning nasty. This fall sits real close to many other falls all capable of being hiked to in one day. So... rainy, cold and a non-hiker with a pet my guide challenge is to get her to smile at what she has endured at the end of the day. We get to triple falls three quarters of the way up the hill and we must stop, breathing heavy now Linda is not happy looking at me but can't be mad...she standing in front of three beautiful waterfalls, we press on to High Falls. The trees now dripping from the rain we arrive at High Falls, the people we met at Hooker Falls come out of trees telling us of the streambed hike up to the top, they instruct us to the base of High Falls....we trek on. At the base of High Falls we are delighted by the shear volume of water and roar of the falls, but it's now three hundred feet strait uphill back to the trail. Escaping the canyon we reach the main trail....inhaler in hand Linda now is struggling we take a moment to gather our thoughts on what we have seen and look out at beautiful high falls which is now partially hidden from the low clouds. We start down the mountain to the car midway down the sky opens......
Thanks for all the great comments....have a nice day!

The Currituck Sound....
Looking across the sound to Waterlily and the mainland North Carolina the sun just beyond down, the old pier and channel markers are plentifull here. This is an F32 long exposure...one shot.
Thanks to the people who are behind me helping me get better.....Linda and Paul Jr. without them these don't happen, both are crazy enough to power vacation around the country looking for old gristmills, lighthouses with me....helping me get my bucket list completed. Where are you going this year? It's a great day to make that bucket list!

Sunset bridge...
Found this in a park next to the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, take time to stop here this was one of the most scenic sunset's i have witnessed for a long time, Blue heron's, cranes, geese, a whole plethora of waterfowl show up here. Three miles north is the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge home of cape's wild horse population. The area is also known for great seashell gathering and Kill Devil Hills is just twenty miles south. This would be a place to bring your paddle craft i saw many photo op's just off the shoreline that would have been awesome provided the temperature was acceptable.
Thanks for all the great comments, wishing all a Happy New Year. #1 Dec. 31st 2011 Thanks go out to Paul Jr. who forces me to get better....Linda who shows me the direction even if it is the internationally known i'm # one sign....Linda's great without her these pictures don't get to you.... the also great DAILY community, thanks for looking hope to see you out on the trail and in the backcountry this year.....let me know how i can help you get there!09JAN2012

Motocross phenom James Stewart....
Described by the fastest man on two wheels Ricky Carmichael during our interview...."I'm the fastest man on two wheels...James is from another planet." This photo taken at Redbud Michigan shows the roost encircling James as he catapults out of the corner.
So... i have been working with the scanner and the guy at b-b told me off i didn't think the scanner was that good to take a picture of the picture with my digital camera in good light then compare that image to the scanned one....camera wins! Although this is a crude quick version of this shot it took me less than five minutes to set the 8x10 up in some good light and real off a shot. the original was taken with a Canon 200mm 1.8 lens on a Canon A2E body at 1200....it was almost raining. Since i have just converted over to digital only four months ago i want to process some of the awesome shots i have in the box already.....help me figure it out....point out the bad ...and the good. Your help is appreciated. The twisted fence..
Found this at a place called the Flying Pig in Wisconsin just south of Kewaunee on HWY 42.... kind of an eclectic place, one of those places people that suffer from ideation go to for direction, project development or sensory facilitation and or reimplementation.....They are harmless, the Red Green show was on when I walked in, can't wait to stop back by.Wisconsinphotopersonfenceunited satesamericaflying pigkewaunee

Flatrock Falls....
Desperate for water shots the canyon is quickly getting dark, my trip coordinator looks even darker, I take a series of quick shots above the fall and turn in for the night. We know the area is full of bear and they are close by, the foliage is scary dense surely could hold a den for a few of the man-eaters. Bears are where they find you, in this area it's a mistake not to pay attention to your surroundings. A pissed off bear is not the happy bear especially when your in the creek shooting and he's pacing on the bank next to you, you have walked right into him.Small craft advisory....
The Bar Crossing into Pamlico Sound
Eight to ten foot sea's is what the captain told me as we boarded the ferry at Cedar Island to get to Ocracoke Island on the last ship out, a two and a half hour tour it can be on of the funnest things to do for so little money, fifteen bucks a car.
The ferry is in the somewhat safe deep water of the channel, this shot shows you the shallow "bar" or "sandbar" in proximity to the boat. The ride was uneventful and a great trip....i wouldn't want to be in a boat crossing the bar to sea or entering the sound....that would have been a bad ride....a three hour tour....a three hour tour comes to mind.barpamlico soundNorth CarolinaseaCedar islandocracoke islandphotoperson
Bodie Lighthouse....
OK, drab....the hurricane that went thru here has the surrounding area closed and the buildings around the lighthouse were damaged as well. This sits way inland and has no shoreline close by. Seashelling in this area is good.bodie lighthousenorth carolinaunited statesamericaphotopersonlighthouses
Jewell Lake Mill....
O.K so the other Jewell Lake Mill shot was good too, but..... I had so many comments on my poor composition that i decided after such... deep thought... humm... and specific prodding i could toss together another "more better" version. They all think it's good now Paul.millgristmillnorth carolinahigh hampton inn and country clubphotoperson
Horse Crossing....
This slab of granite must protrude out of Grassy Creek at low flow allowing the horses some good footing. The Du Pont State Forest is a horseman's dream lots of horse trails and the surrounding area is rural livestock agricultural communities. Swollen by recent rains Grassy Creek is overtopping this beautiful slab, half of the year the creek may be dry so plan acordingly. This area has abundant vegetation right next to water and there is a trail system right beside the creek to the top where there is a covered trail bridge, an exceptional place it could be said it's hard to find as the signage in the area is lacking. The rapids of Looking Glass Falls...
Yes just beyond that stack of boulders are six frolicking kids....yes they are there to stay, and.... why don't they care about your shot? Forced creativity. This fall is nice....it gets pummeled with high human traffic heck I've seen twenty people swimming here before in the summertime....sometimes they even offer you up some fried chicken, for that group photo...but of course.Depiction of Dedication....

Ocracoke Island Lighthouse.... North Carolina
The view from the hotel. We got off the last ferry from Cedar Island and found this place, our last hope but for our tent. We went all the way across the Island and came back here and found this place to stay.....this was a great place, you could look up in the sky and see the milky way boiling across the darkness.....i was to tired to do a long exposure.north carolinaphotopersonlighthouseocracoke island lighthouse
Wharf window...
Walking around the wharf at Georgetown South Carolina this was on the side of one of the boat repair shops. The guys running the place look like they were from a novel and did not want to be photographed. With there craggily beards and tattered skin they told us they didn't really watch to much college football, but rugby was the shit. There is a lot to photo in the area Georgetown has a nice Historic district.Georgetownsouth carolinaunited statesamericaphotopersonwharfwindow
Ferry Sunset....
Aboard the North Carolina Department of Transporation ferry going from Cedar Island to Ocracoke Island. The two plus hour trip was a perfect end to the day, we went to the USS North Carolina earlier and spent way to much time visiting past family members so our drive to catch the ferry was crazy, you have to be in line a half hour before the ferry leaves and this was the last ferry out, power vacationing call it.....exhaustion is what Linda thought.ferryphotopersonnorth carolinasunsetcedar islandocracoke islandamericaunited states
