23FEB2012 Dueling Paul's..... Went to the now world famous grindstone area this weekend for the first time ever with Paul Jr and Linda, I must say for such an urban area it has so much to see and enjoy for sure. Paul receives his PhD. within the next month or so, he will be the first in our family tree to have accomplished this....quite an achievement, we are sure proud, seems like just yesterday you were my co-pilot in diapers flying the friendly sky's. Keep the passion for photography, it will take you to the ends of the earth.....tuck that shirt in before you go.....love ya! Thanks Donna I was hoping he would use that as his new blog name.... Thanks for all the wonderful comments.....special thanks go to his Grandma and Grandpa without them this doesn't happen!
22FEB2012 Final approach.... Not what you want to see as your coming in for landing.
21FEB2012 Bird Barn.... The Bluffs in the background highlight just how many birds are out there. This shot was almost a mile from the main pool of the lake which is full of snow geese on saturday about three PM. We came back by here yesterday at three PM.....not one, and raining.
20FEB2012 Lift Off.... Single shot Taken at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge.....
19FEB2012 Liftoff.... Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge......Two million birds and counting, ten thousand new birds an hour arriving now daily. This is a small flight, we had a huge flock lift off within one hundred yards from us, it was louder than a locomotive, it was one of the most spectacular natural events I have ever witnessed. No processing of this shot, we are on the road.....enjoy! Thanks for all your comments!
18FEB2012 Fall Barn on the rolling hills of Wisconsin. Dotted across the carpet of fall foliage that is America many miles from nowhere we stumble across this fantastic view. Again we are in search of an elusive gristmill that we cannot find. We are way out in the countryside, frustrated and OK we probably smell for it has been days since we have had visited a hotel our clothes hold the lingering smell of last nights campfire. Sitting on the tailgate I enjoy the smooth scent of mustard that garnishes my bologna sandwich Linda has prepared for me as we formulate a plan of attack, it's getting late and time is short we need to locate this mill. Round and round the map goes, where could this gristmill be.....
17FEB2012 Downstream...... Many years past the beavers now gone the dam now yields large trees and diverts the water left to make a new course for the river to flow. This area of Wisconsin is so remote the animals are not afraid of humans, we are forty miles from the nearest house and have traveled to this spot on what seemed like boulders and sand only to arrive at a fifty foot cliff, a mile hike and wha-la this is what you walk out to. A small waterfall is just behind me the sun blazing on my back I set up the tripod.... I hope Linda has not seen the what is moving the bushes in the distance. Halfway here we passed a group of stunned hunters all on four wheelers rifles strapped to their racks guiding the group of city folks, It's bear season and we can hear the many dogs baying to their masters in the deep woods. Places like this yield some of the largest beaver and badger pelts in America, the small country stores we frequented on this trip are like big game trophy showcases luring the city folks back for the hunt of a lifetime
