Just another ________ in the wall!

I call this one the "Ultimate Puzzle" shot, my mom would have spent days and daze working on a puzzle like this.....

Hope your weekend is filled with joy.....enjoy!

We took this shot fairly early in the day, direct sunlight clear sky's, this is a tech tip I found along the way....I was set on direct sun exposure on the camera at ISO 100 so the long distance shots are real crisp as the geese moved closer and closer to us the wall they put up as they had a mass ascension darkend the frame so much I went to ISO 400, I found them to be much easier to process, that move took away all the dark shadows between the birds dark wings and white bodies......take a look at the largest size possible and you will see the difficulty in processing one may have, hope this little tech tip will help you someday!

The wall of geese are about 100 yards out I cropped the bottom of the shot because the large amount of water detracts from the shot, I like cropped shots or the pano view I find they sell better than a full frame shots, a pano shot allows you to do more with the matting and frame selection I have found, my personal viewpoint....thanks for yours!

I only saw one impact death from birds colliding in mid-air while we were there, what I found amazing was when the mature adult goose hit the ground it buried in about six inches deep near some people down the way from us, It would have certainly done bodily harm if it had made impact with a human. We traveled the extent of the road system in the refuge and saw hundreds of geese littering the ground from mid-air impacts, attrition in nature they call that.

Thanks for the great questions and comments.....I try to answer all your questions here later in the day as time permits.

Middle falls in the rain....

On our trip up to triple falls North Carolina we swept past a open spot in the trees here I was able to shoot a shot of the middle fall of triple falls, I have been working on this one for a while it's hard to get the rain out of the shot over such a long distance.

This is a single exposer in the rain, the fall is a quarter of a mile out.

Thanks for all the great comments on yesterdays pic that was fun. Hope you enjoy your Friday!

Dueling Paul's.....

Went to the now world famous grindstone area this weekend for the first time ever with Paul Jr and Linda, I must say for such an urban area it has so much to see and enjoy for sure. Paul receives his PhD. within the next month or so, he will be the first in our family tree to have accomplished this....quite an achievement, we are sure proud, seems like just yesterday you were my co-pilot in diapers flying the friendly sky's. Keep the passion for photography, it will take you to the ends of the earth.....tuck that shirt in before you go.....love ya!

Thanks Donna I was hoping he would use that as his new blog name....

Thanks for all the wonderful comments.....special thanks go to his Grandma and Grandpa without them this doesn't happen!

Bird Barn....

The Bluffs in the background highlight just how many birds are out there. This shot was almost a mile from the main pool of the lake which is full of snow geese on saturday about three PM.

We came back by here yesterday at three PM.....not one, and raining.

Lift Off....

Single shot Taken at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge.....

Liftoff....

Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge......Two million birds and counting, ten thousand new birds an hour arriving now daily. This is a small flight, we had a huge flock lift off within one hundred yards from us, it was louder than a locomotive, it was one of the most spectacular natural events I have ever witnessed. No processing of this shot, we are on the road.....enjoy!

Thanks for all your comments!
