18FEB2012 Fall Barn on the rolling hills of Wisconsin. Dotted across the carpet of fall foliage that is America many miles from nowhere we stumble across this fantastic view. Again we are in search of an elusive gristmill that we cannot find. We are way out in the countryside, frustrated and OK we probably smell for it has been days since we have had visited a hotel our clothes hold the lingering smell of last nights campfire. Sitting on the tailgate I enjoy the smooth scent of mustard that garnishes my bologna sandwich Linda has prepared for me as we formulate a plan of attack, it's getting late and time is short we need to locate this mill. Round and round the map goes, where could this gristmill be.....
17FEB2012 Downstream...... Many years past the beavers now gone the dam now yields large trees and diverts the water left to make a new course for the river to flow. This area of Wisconsin is so remote the animals are not afraid of humans, we are forty miles from the nearest house and have traveled to this spot on what seemed like boulders and sand only to arrive at a fifty foot cliff, a mile hike and wha-la this is what you walk out to. A small waterfall is just behind me the sun blazing on my back I set up the tripod.... I hope Linda has not seen the what is moving the bushes in the distance. Halfway here we passed a group of stunned hunters all on four wheelers rifles strapped to their racks guiding the group of city folks, It's bear season and we can hear the many dogs baying to their masters in the deep woods. Places like this yield some of the largest beaver and badger pelts in America, the small country stores we frequented on this trip are like big game trophy showcases luring the city folks back for the hunt of a lifetime
16FEB2012 New man on the block..... First time out of the nest this newbee male Cardinal shadows Mom and Dad to the feeding area of the backyard, Although his hair and feathers are not in place yet they get around with few stumbles. We also have new Bluejays also....they look even worse when they first fly.

12FEB2012 The Eroding Coast...... This section of the Wisconsin shoreline is one of my favorite areas to visit, it offers staggering views and unparalleled fall foliage when in season. The caves water has eroded away are a kayaker's dream, the sharp edge and beautiful water draw all who come here right to the edge. While here on this stunning fall evening hundreds gathered in the park just behind the trees, there is a hiking trail that follows the coast in either direction from this point. This shot took about an hour to get as so many people are enjoying the thundering waves crashing into the caves, I prefer not to have people in my images so I just wait, this is a hand held shot, just behind me there are about fifty people clamoring on the jagged limestone plateau. I am knee deep in the cold waters of lake Superior and Linda is again not happy with the risk to reward ratio of this shot, the water doesn't seem bad in this shot, it even looks calm, but the lake was producing four foot rollers during my escapade over the edge. Most of the passerby's were content with my plight, for the Wisconsin Badgers had just spanked us Huskers hard the weekend prior....of course I was wearing my Husker sweatshirt. Most people think you are incapable of rational thought when they see something like this, some even ask what you are doing or if I need help, I usually tell them the kind of help I need they couldn't give me but thanks anyway....they laugh and wander off....usually into my shot. Thanks for all your wonderful comments and questions....
